Fore Life Golf Tournament, benefitting American Foundation of Suicide Prevention

(Dove Canyon, Ca. – March 4, 2013)  It was an amazing morning at Dove Canyon Country Club; the skies were blue, the sun was beaming, and over 100 golfers gathered to support an amazing life-saving cause: The 2^nd Annual Fore Life Golf Tournament. The “Dynamic Trio” (Audi Mission Viejo, Infiniti of Mission Viejo and our new Pre-Owned Center) teamed up to partner with this charity event. Cris Baker, Infiniti Sale Team Member, hosted our table at the event, answering product questions and demonstrating our beautiful vehicles. Cris’ online reviews can be read on his review site.

Ready to play golf!

We had 2 awesome pre-owned vehicles on display: a classic white 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera and a charcoal 2012 Volkswagen Passat. One lucky hole-in-one winner will drive away in a 2 year lease, with the choice of a brand new Infiniti G37 or Audi A4.  Besides a remarkable day of golf, guests enjoyed a helicopter ball drop, silent auction, fabulous dinner, live music and an award ceremony. Each golfer spun the “Spin to Win” wheel, whatever dollar amount they landed on, our Pre-Owned Dealership donated that money back to the charity. Each donation was made in the golfer’s name. Special thanks to all who participated – we are happy to donate to such a great cause.

ForeLife.org was created by Casey Likeness, who lost his brother Kevin in November 2000 – when his life was cut short early at the age of 19 years old. On his website, Casey said,  ”Kevin was a very gentle, humble soul whose uplifting personality touched the hearts of those that had the privilege of knowing him.”  Casey and the Fore Life team have a heart for creating awareness about suicide, as well as providing assistance to families coping with the tragic loss of a loved one.

All of the proceeds from today’s tournament will go to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), here in Orange County as well as San Diego County. AFSP is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through their research, education and advocacy. They reach out to people with mental health disorders and those impacted by suicide.

I had the privilege of meeting Che Hernandez, the San Diego AFSP Chapter Chair at the tournament. Che had a great table set up; he shook hands and spoke with golfers about AFSP, had brochures accessible with pertinent information about suicide and wrist bands that said, “Out of the Darkness”. When asked about his involvement and heart for suicide prevention he said, “I’m just an ordinary guy with an extraordinary commitment to people.”

Ocean Institute Jazz Festival

February 22nd through 24th 2013, Dana Point, CA – The Ocean Institute held their “Jazz in February” fundraiser and concert series this past weekend and Infiniti of Mission Viejo was thrilled to be elected as Valet Sponsor for the Saturday evening gala. Event schedule and details can be found on the Ocean Institute’s website so I won’t slow you down with specifics. Here’s what we loved about it:

This may be the most fun fundraiser we’ve been to do date. Jennifer Irving (our new Events and Media Coordinator) and I met some wonderful supporters of the Institute, which gives Orange County kids a real opportunity to learn about and love the ocean. Some of the students that the Ocean Institute’s Adopt-A-Class programs benefit, though they live so close, have never seen or been to the ocean before! As a native of Laguna Beach myself, I still have a hard time wrapping my head around that.

As the exclusive valet sponsor for Saturday night, we brought a couple of fine new Infinitis with us – a 2013 Infiniti QX56 and a beautiful white 2013 Infiniti G37 Convertible. To add to the fun, the Ocean Institute let us put the G Convertible into the Silent Auction as part of a Weekend Getaway package; we included a $100 Gift Certificate to Spaghettini in Seal Beach, CA – the renowned Jazz hotspot of Southern California.

Personally I was blown away by the Saturday night concert, which followed a delightful three-course meal and live auction that raised almost $100,000 for the non-profit’s programs. The performers – Rick Braun and friends Peter White and Richard Elliot were backed by an amazing bass player, drummer, rhythm guitarist, and grammy-winning keyboard artist! It was the definition of jam session. I snuck a couple of video clips that I stitched together on my iPhone later – here’s what you can expect to see one-upped in 2014! Sunday met Jennifer with beautiful blue skies, sun, sea, and of course an encore unplugged session with jazz guitarist Peter White. While more relaxed, the Sunday event sold for $120 for General Admission, and $150 for Premiere Seating – all adding to the weekend’s bottom line: supporting Orange County kids. This was the first time the Jazz Festival has had a Sunday component in its long history – and included a Q&A session with the artist.

Of course we couldn’t help ourselves – the G37 Convertible (with top down of course) was raffled off to a lucky winner for a weekend trip. People ask us – what would I do with a new car for just a weekend? A cruise up and down Pacific Coast Highway with the Bose Personal Audio Headrests tickling your earbuds and the sun rays warming your face sounds pretty nice.

To sum it up, Jennifer and I are now fans of the Ocean Institute Jazz Festival – we hope to be invited back next year! — Cedric

Infiniti Dealer near San Clemente Sponsors Local School Tournament

Our staff at Infiniti of Mission Viejo love our community! So when schools like St. Edward the Confessor (http://www.setcps.com/) reach out to us to sponsor a hole-in-one contest, we say yes!

St. Edward Catholic Church, located in Dana Point holds an annual fundraiser golf tournament – for 2012 it is located at Talega Golf Course in San Clemente, CA.

Golfers took their best shot at a hole-in-one contest for a two year lease special on a 2013 Infiniti G37 Sedan and took a spin on our prize wheel – all proceeds went back to the fundraiser benefitting the school.

Friday night and we’re here at Mission Viejo High School who is hosting the Santa Margarita Eagles versus the Trabuco Hills Mustangs (who are located in Mission Viejo). I’ve never seen so many people at a high school football game – or such a devoted crowd! There are two full tailgate parties going on in the parking lot and the crowds are simply draped in their spirit-wear.

This is predicted to be one of the most heated matchups – Santa Margarita’s football squad is currently ranked #2 in the nation, and Trabuco is looking to make a name for themselves. Only time will tell which Inspired Performance of the Game the producers in the COX3 Game of the Week truck will choose; there’s certain to be plenty to choose from.

35 to zero going in to the half in favor of the Eagles. No Inspired Performance has been elected yet. It’s still anybody’s ball game. I’m going to have a walk around to see more of this unbelievable crowd – it feels like a college bowl game in here.

You’ve got to give both teams credit for having such passionate football fans – I not only see Trabuco Hills families and people from Rancho Santa Margarita, there are more than a few Nebraska Huskers fans in the Santa Margarita bleachers; sounds like the recruiters are scouting!

This game closed out with a clean sweep – final score 55 to zero for the Eagles. The Inspired Performance of the Game goes to Johnny Stanton, the Eagles’ quarterback, for a stellar run into the endzone. Game On!

I’m sitting here at Tesoro High School off of Oso Parkway on the way to Coto de Caza – it’s 30 minutes to game time in the first COX3 Game of the Week: high school football televised on COX Channel 3.

The Tesoro Titans and Hart Indians are doing warm-up drills; I wonder if it’s doing more harm than good – it has been blazingly hot all day and watching the sun sink over the rolling hills is a welcome sight. In spite of the heat the crowds are rolling in, iron-clad in school colors, ready to watch another great High School Football matchup. Parents are firmly shaking hands with friends and clapping each other on the shoulders – it’s obvious that there’s a bond between spectators that is as strong as between players. I love this stuff – it’s a long time since I was in pads and jersey; makes me miss it. One thing is sure though – the fans sure are ready.

10 minutes now – the announcer fires up the PA. The bleachers are thickening and the smoke billows from the barbeques as the Tesoro Cheer Squad walks on to the track. Night falls as the action begins.

The COX3 team is amazing - their broadcast truck (which is as big as a moving van) sits just at the edge of the Titan Stadium; it is packed full of skilled technicians and broadcast engineers. Listening to the commands and synchronicity of the team is pretty impressive. “Ready camera two.. take two. Ready four, take four.. Slow-mo ready – go slow-mo” says Marcus Williams, producer of the COX3 Game of the Week – stand up guy and hardcore high school football fan.

Twenty seconds left in the second quarter and Hart is up 7 to 3.

Deep into the 4th quarter, Matt Adam (Tesoro Quarterback, #11), comes up with a huge third down conversion and stretches for the end zone. That would prove to be the scoring drive that put Tesoro over the top to win the game!
